This is located between the condenser and the evaporator. Its purpose is to expand the refrigerant, the substance responsible for refrigeration, to reduce the heat’s pressureand increase the refrigerant’s volume. It allows the refrigerant to remove the heat that’s coming from the evaporator. As the refrigerant enters the valve, it’ll slowly flow through an orifice. It reduces the pressure of the heat, and the cold refrigerant will leave the valve.
The condenser removes heat that’s produced by the machine’s evaporator. This is commonly used for other cooling apparatus, such as refrigerators.There are 2 types of condensers. The first one is the water-cooled type. This type of condenser continually cycles the condenser water from the cooling tower, a device that rejects heat. The refrigerant will transfer theheat to the water that’s being transported to the cooling system. The refrigerant doesn’t mix with the water as it’s separated by a pipe. The second one is the air-cooled condenser.This doesn’t use a cooling tower. It blows air over the condenser pipes, while the refrigerant flows freely inside.
The compressor is a vital part of a chiller. It’s considered the heart of any cooling machine. Itmoves the refrigerant around the system through air pressure. This component is insulated and has an electrical motor attached to it that acts as the moving force. Compressors are usually noisy, producing a high-pitchedsound. This is located between the evaporator and the condenser.
This component is situated between the expansion valve and the compressor. Its main purpose is to collect heat. It evaporates the heat from the refrigerant. Then, the refrigerant will be sent to the cooling tower. The refrigerant extracts the heat, therefore cooling the water. The water will be pumped to produce cool air, and it’ll return to the evaporator to repeat the process.
The controls are mounted on the chiller itself. Their purpose is to administer the different aspects that affect the chiller’s performance. They generate an alarm for engineers when something goes wrong, so they can safely shut them down. Building Management Systems (BMS) connections are also installed in the control panelto allow remote monitoring, which coordinates the mechanical operations of the components.
